I'll be honest, I always liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Only a few clicks and a customer can place an order using a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, however, it comes at a cost. A large one.
This is only the few freelance platforms in which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and outright blackmail vendors any way they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this post, I would like to talk about a recent bad experience for a seller on Fiverr, and why I decided to give up on the stage entirely.
How A Regular Order Instantly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
While I have been employing Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a while, this particular experience relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I have been advising her on building up a respectable account, and the way to go above and beyond with every previous purchase. Everything stated is her doing, I am only an observer.)
In cases like this, she had just gotten another $5 order on her emblem gig, which seemed to be similar to any other... or so we thought.
The order was fulfilled in great time, and my girlfriend had even included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (that is usually part of the costlier bundle ).
The client"loved" one of those concepts and so we proceeded to send her the appropriates record sizes, as mentioned in the gig description.
The customer came back requesting a social media kit to choose the emblem, something that is obviously not offered as a member of her or his gig.
In my advice, my buddy chose to deliver the further work, despite not getting paid any extra for it.
After that, the customer responded with more requirements and some alterations to the social media files.
At this time, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this individual, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
This is when the client went from simply overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend's Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a reply and reach out to Fiverr support for help, the client did eventually go right ahead and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she was Fiverr Review 2018: From Freelancer As Well As Client's Perspective not kidding.
Shortly after, while waiting on Fiverr's response to the support question, the customer paid an additional $10 for the social networking kit.
Obviously, the payment has been accompanied by still another threat.
Now, all I wanted to do was move all Liam Neeson and search this individual down so I could repeatedly punch them from the face.
However, in the time, I still had hope that Fiverr service would step in and rescue my girlfriend from that PITA client.
After the response came from Fiverr support, they told that they could How To Buy Fiverr Reviews - Ojasweb Digital Solution not force the buyer to accept the purchase.
Alright, that's reasonable enough. (though the purchaser already accepted it.)
They also proposed drawing up a listing for the buyer to reveal the job has been done in accordance with the gig requirements.
My girlfriend communicated in her initial email the customer was hoping to extort her for free work out the agreed conditions, by leaving a negative review if she didn't comply.
Naturally, it was not really about the work, it was all about seeking protection from an abusive client who was intentionally pushing their luck.
Their answer did not provide either of us some confidence that Fiverr actually knew that, and even at this stage we felt as though they didn't want to get involved.
At the same time, she responded to the buyers most recent danger, explaining that she would not continue to function together unless the comments was changed/removed.
(Again, this is comments that was obviously and intentionally left to intimidate her to supplying work out of the agreed terms)
A fair petition by anyones standards, appropriate?
As opposed to acknowledge what the buyer had completed until this point, Fiverr immediately turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the one breaking all of the rules.
Since she had requested the customer to change their feedback, she was no more eligible for some assistance from Fiverr support.
It is possible to imagine how we felt reading this.
Everything that the buyer had said and done prior to her final message has been now being swept under the rug -- like never happened whatsoever.
Fiverr essentially opted to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain on an accounts she had worked so difficult to build up.
And believe me, there are loads of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
But as most this was happening, I did a little research to find out if any other vendors went through a similar ordeal with an individual purchaser.
Quite quickly, I discovered a variety of almost equal cases over the Fiverr forum dated years ago. (that's correct, years.)
This is obviously something that's been happening for quite a while and it stems from giving buyers too much power over sellers.
When there's one thing I've heard about Fiverr, it is that clients are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time you put into a job, or just how hard you've worked on itor even how well you handled communication during a dispute, as it really boils down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even when it is a this article very clear cut situation in your favour, there's still every chance the client will come out at the top. It takes it one tiny thing you"did wrong" according to their terms of support and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Looking at the signs, it is clear to me that Fiverr is well aware of what's going on, yet is still inclined to settle back and let it happen.
If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, I implore you to seriously reconsider your existing support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that somebody can put all that time and effort in to establishing an account and also over-delivering at every possible chance, only to be taken down from the very people you rely on to protect you.
Look, I do not need to abandon Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling people to prevent your system.
But after everything that's occurred, you have not left me any decision.
Until something is done in order to shield freelancers from this kind of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this post and do anything I can to prevent others from falling victim to a one-sided support team.
The next you actually do something about this and provide freelancers a way to fight , I'll be more than happy to update this post.
